New ‘Terminator’ Movie Pushed to November 2019

Paramount and Skydance have pushed the new “Terminator” movie to be released on November 22, 2019, the studio announced.

The latest sequel from Skydance and Paramount, which is listed as “Terminator 3,” had previously been set for a July 26, 2019.

“Deadpool” breakout Tim Miller is slated to direct the latest sequel, with Cameron taking on a producing role in the movie that harks back to the plot lines of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.” Along with reuniting the original team, it will also act as an introduction of a whole new cast of characters. “Captain Phillips” writer Billy Ray has been brought on to polish the script.

“This is a continuation of the story from ‘Terminator 1’ and ‘Terminator 2.’ And we’re pretending the other films were a bad dream,” Cameron said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Or an alternate timeline, which is permissible in our multi-verse.”

Cameron directed and wrote the first two films in the franchise, but stepped away before “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.” Since Cameron, there have been three sequels and a TV show.

“This was really driven more by [Tim] than anybody, surprisingly, because I came in pretty agnostic about where we took it,” Cameron explained. “The only thing I insisted on was that we somehow revamp it and reinvent it for the 21st century.”

While Linda Hamilton, who played Sarah Connor, and Arnold Schwarzenegger are expected to return, Cameron added that the purpose of the reboot is to hand off the story to new characters. Mackenzie Davis is in talks to join the cast of the sixth “Terminator” film.

“A lot of this is handing off the baton to a new generation of characters,” he said. “We’re starting a search for an 18-something young woman to essentially be the new centerpiece of these stories. And then a number of other characters around her and characters from the future. We still fold time in the story in intriguing ways. But we have Arnold’s character and Linda’s character to anchor it.”
