EastEnders legend teases explosive return to soap as they take swipe at ‘odd’ exit storyline
A FORMER EastEnders legend has teased their explosive return to the soap after they swiped at their ‘odd’ exit.
Viewers of the long-running BBC One soap watched as Mick Carter vanished at scene during a devastating Christmas storyline.
He entered the water as his wife Janine and ex-wife Linda were in a car that went off a cliff.
It came following a showdown as Janine’s scheming, lies and manipulation was exposed.
Now, following his character’s departure, Danny Dyer has revealed he found his storyline “odd”.
Fans of his pub landlord character will know that Mick couldn’t swim and had a fear of water.
Speaking about this, Dyer told The Times: “He can’t swim. I found it a bit odd.”
However, he’s not ruled out returning to the soap in years to come.
He teased: “Anything is possible.”
The 45-year-old wanted his character to bow out in a different way to what EastEnders bosses and script writers had decided upon.
“I felt that to go on a journey with Mick, who doesn’t open up properly to anyone, and feels shame and all that stuff, to have it end tragically, that would have opened debate and got the nation talking.”
Mick had suffered with depression in recent years and contemplated taking his own life.
Danny will appear on The Jonathan Ross Show this weekend where he’ll discuss his exit after nine years.
He’ll say: “It’s a very emotional thing, it’s such a big part of me.
Dyer admits: “I do miss the people there, there’s no two ways about it but it’s a new chapter for me.”
He adds: “I tell you what it is, I’m lazy. It’s f***ing hard.
“Thirty pages you’ve got to learn a day. It’s like a film a week.
“My final scenes were in the sea, in Ramsgate at 2am.
“We did the exteriors in the sea and the interiors you go to a water tank.
“But EastEnders couldn’t get Pinewood, so we had to go to Basildon.”
