View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Andy Dungan near Cotopaxi, Colorado, captured Messier 45, the Pleiades star cluster, on October 21, 2025. Andy wrote: “The Pleiades is just plain and simple one of the most beautiful star clusters, and people with simple gear can photograph it relatively easily. This color of blue is just so wonderful!” Thank you, Andy! See more deep-sky photos from October 2025 below.

Deep-sky photos of diffuse nebulae
View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Kanil Nimsara in Colombo, Sri Lanka, captured the Rosette nebula, in the constellation Monoceros the Unicorn, on October 22, 2025. Kanil wrote: “This composition took 30 minutes of light capture and 80 hours project duration of alignment tests and focus tuning. But the result was worth every second under the stars under my Bortle 4 skies.” Thank you, Kanil!View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Craig Freeman in Mansfield, Ohio, captured the Orion nebula on October 22, 2025. Craig wrote: “Orion nebula with Running Man nebula: 17.2 hours of combined data collected over multiple nights.” Thank you, Craig!
More diffuse nebulae
View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Jelieta Walinski at Desert Bloom Observatory in St. David, Arizona, captured the Embryo nebula on October 29, 2025. Jelieta wrote: “Glowing softly in hues of blue and amber, this reflection nebula shelters newborn stars wrapped in cocoons of cosmic dust. Their faint light dances through veils of interstellar mist, whispering stories of stellar infancy. Captured over 5 patient nights at Desert Bloom Observatory, this image gathers 88 frames of 600-second exposures: a tapestry woven from light and time. Every pixel speaks of formation, turbulence and renewal … a glimpse into the universe’s eternal cycle of birth and becoming.” Thank you, Jelieta!View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Aquib Ali Ansari in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, captured the North America nebula on October 10, 2025. Aquib wrote: “A glowing hydrogen cloud captured through multiple nights, revealing detail despite light pollution.” Thank you, Aquib!View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Steven Bellavia in Oliverea-Big Indian Valley, New York, captured the Helping Hand nebula on October 16, 2025. Steven wrote: “It is a combination of gas and dust – along with some glowing emission nebulae – and is on the eastern side of the constellation Cassiopeia the Queen, almost at the border of Camelopardalis, at approximately 1,000 light-years from Earth.” Thank you, Steven!
Star-forming regions of the Milky Way (with a passing comet)
View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Tameem Altameemi in the United Arab Emirates caught the star-forming regions of the Milky Way (with a passing comet) on October 18, 2025. Tameem wrote: “I captured Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN) from the mountainous region of the United Arab Emirates as it passed in front of one of the richest regions of our Milky Way. The image shows the comet’s ion tail extending across a stunning field of emission nebulae and dark interstellar dust, including notable star-forming regions such as the Eagle nebula (M16) and Omega nebula (M17). The image highlights the interconnected nature of our galaxy, from frozen cometary material to hot ionized gas shaped by stellar winds.” Thank you, Tameem!
The California nebula
View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Ernest Jacobs in Eden, New York, captured the California nebula on October 4, 2025. Ernest wrote: “The California nebula is a large emission nebula in the constellation Perseus the Hero. It is called the California nebula because its clouds of ionized hydrogen gas resemble the shape of the U.S. state. This large star-forming region is about 1,800 light-years from earth.” Thank you, Ernest!
Deep-sky photos of faraway galaxies
View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Andy Dungan near Cotopaxi, Colorado, captured Messier 31, the Andromeda galaxy, on October 20, 2025. Andy wrote: “The part that always amazes me about the Andromeda galaxy is that it is close to the same size as the moon when you look at them from Earth. Andromeda is really big. And, at 2.5 million light-years away, it’s the closest galaxy to us in the universe!” Thank you, Andy!View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Andy Dungan also captured the Deer Lick Group and Stephan’s Quintet, both in the constellation Pegasus the Flying Horse, on October 17, 2025. Andy wrote: “I have been intrigued by Stephan’s Quintet since I started this hobby. This galaxy group really makes me want to buy a telescope with a much longer focal length. The shapes are so interesting. The fact that you can photograph both these ‘groups’ in 1 shot also makes them interesting together.” Thank you, Andy!View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Tameem Altameemi in the United Arab Emirates captured the galaxies NGC 474 and NGC 470 on October 25, 2025. Tameem wrote: “In the constellation Pisces the Fish, NGC 474 and NGC 470 are locked in a slow gravitational interaction that reveals the dynamic nature of galaxy evolution. This deep-sky image highlights the extraordinary contrast between these 2 systems: one an ancient elliptical galaxy enveloped in faint shells, and the other an active spiral galaxy undergoing star formation.” Thank you, Tameem!
Bottom line: Enjoy this gallery of deep-sky photos for October 2025 from our EarthSky community. If you have a great photo to share, send it in, too. We love to see them!
