Utah Resort Delays Ski Season Start as Warm Temperatures Stall Snowmaking
Brian Head Resort, Utah, has adjusted its opening day plans, pushing the first day of the season back by a week due to warm weather that has hindered snowmaking.
The ski resort is now scheduled to open on November 14, 2025, weather permitting. Previously, Brian Head had targeted November 7 as its opening day, which could have made it the first ski resort to open in Utah.
“Our mountain operations team is working hard to make snow every time temperatures drop so we can open as soon as possible,” said Amber Palmer, marketing manager at Brian Head, in a press release.
Now, Brian Head is in line with Solitude's planned opening day. Of the resorts in the state that have announced opening dates, they are poised to get started the earliest.

Because of the delay, all Brian Head visitors with reservations between November 7 and November 13 will receive a full, automatic credit, which can be applied towards buying tickets later this season.
The ski resort noted that skiers who are interested in a refund instead can contact Brian Head by email: reservations@brianhead.com.
The schedule shuffle marks a departure from last winter, when Brian Head scored its second-earliest opening ever on November 8, 2024. Today, the mercury at Brian is expected to hit 44 degrees Fahrenheit, with highs in the low 40s forecasted for the rest of the week. Ski resorts need cold and dry weather to make snow.
Beyond Solitude and Brian Head, a few more Utah ski resorts are eyeing opening dates later this month. Alta Ski Area and Park City both plan to open on November 21. Snowbird is eyeing November 27, followed by Snowbasin on the 28th.
Elsewhere, the ski season is already underway. Sunshine Village, Alberta, kicked off its season surprisingly early on November 2. Lake Louise, another Alberta mountain, joined the fun two days later.
Keystone and Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, had exciting, back-to-back openings in late October. Winter Park, Colorado, is also open for business.
