Sheriff: St. Gabriel police captain supplied drugs to man who killed him
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — New details were released after the stabbing death of St. Gabriel Police Capt. Devin Boutte.
Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said Boutte and Warren Mitchell III, 25, were romantically involved, confirming that they lived together for some time. He said detectives found crystal methamphetamine and other drugs inside the home. Evidence in this case has been turned over to the State Police Crime Lab.
According to Stassi, Mitchell told investigators that Boutte provided him with drugs to use and sell on the streets.
The sheriff added that Mitchell told investigators that he recently robbed a store clerk to go to jail so he could get away from Boutte, but returned the money and asked for charges to be dropped.
Mitchell was charged with second-degree murder in connection with Boutte's stabbing death Sunday.
