The society is now conscious of their looks and their health status; obesity is being fought in almost every part of the world. Nigerians are doing their best possible when it comes to weight loss; many hit the gym often and try to exercise outside the gym as well.
The effort most Nigerians are putting into weight loss is quite commendable; we see the before and after photos when many of them might have shed some weight. As much as Nigerians try hard to keep fit, there are certain foods that they cannot stop eating.
As a matter of fact, some of them deliberately eat large quantities of food and console themselves by saying they would burn it out at the gyms. There are certain types of foods Nigerians cannot avoid while they are dying. They often tease themselves about the need to eat well. These foods would always be consumed by Nigerians irrespective of the economic regression the country might be facing or the hardship faced by majority of the citizens.

1. Pounded yam
This is believed to be the king of all foods in Nigeria. Many people would settle for this food at parties and eat as much as they want. This is because the preparation of the food requires quite a lot of processes and energy.
Nigerians who say they are on a diet indulge themselves when it comes to this food and break every rule they have made about eating little at a time. Most times, they get encouraged by people who tell them to eat more and not starve to death because of their dieting plan.

2. Amala and ewedu
This food is exclusive to the Yoruba people; Nigerians who eat Amala and Ewedu do not care whether their stomach gets bigger from eating this meal or not.
Nigerians who are on a diet eat this meal without holding back because they believe the food digests easily and would make them pee as much as possible. Therefore, they refer to it as water. Amala and ewedu is one of the favorite foods of people in the western part of Nigeria.
3. Jollof rice
Nigerians love jollof rice; diet or no diet, these people would keep eating this food. They really do not care whether this food belongs in the carbohydrate class or not.
Diabetic patients who avoid eating food with glucose as the end product also eat this food. Virtually every Nigerian eat this food and trust us when we say many of them are not considering its impact on their health and weight.
4. Tuwo shinkafa
Moving up to the northern part of Nigeria, people who live there do not joke with this food. Majority of them are Hausas and this is their native food. It is quite impossible for people of this tribe to stop eating this food because of some dieting schedule. This food which is made from rice meal is eaten with different types of soups.
5. Edikaikong
Edikang ikong is a native soup that is indigenous to the Efik and Akwa-Ibom people. This soup is made using waterleaf and ugwu vegetables. The soup is made rich by adding varieties of meat and assorted fish to it. Although this vegetable can be eaten alone, most Nigerians enjoy eating it with garri, semo or pounded yam.
The staple foods are heavy meals; but people do not pay much attention to how heavy the meal makes them in as much as they enjoy the meal.

6. Fufu and vegetables
Most Igbo people enjoy eating Fufu with vegetables. People from this part of the country enjoy eating solid meals. There are a variety of soups indigenous to them and they would eat these foods without thinking of the weight they would gain. For many Nigerians, it is more about survival and putting an end to hunger and poverty.
