Opinion: One player from every Premier League club that Tottenham would love to sign

It is always fun to consider which players from rival teams you would have at your own club. There is usually at least one or two from each club that you occasionally watch and think, “yeah, id have him at Spurs”.

In this article, I am going to examine each of the 19 other teams in the Premier League and decide, in each case, which single player I would take at Tottenham.

Arsenal – Bukayo Saka: Let us start with the most controversial, shall we? Many may argue that they would not even consider bringing on board a player from the boys up the road. However, it has reaped its rewards before. Saka has been a revelation in the Arsenal squad and is largely responsible for the turn around in form Arsenal have seen.

Aston Villa – Jack Grealish: This one is a bit obvious isn’t it? Grealish alone has contributed 6 goals and 11 assists in 17 appearances in the league this season (TransferMarkt). He would certainly add an attacking threat to Spurs’ midfield.

Brighton and Hove Albion – Tariq Lamptey: There is certainly a lot of hype building around this energetic fullback. The Englishman often displays a burst of pace as well as an ability to pick out a forward pass. At only 20 years old, he could provide the solution to our ever-present right-back problem.

Burnley – Nick Pope: Let’s face it, Lloris is not going to be around forever, and Pope could provide the perfect replacement. He would fulfil the ‘homegrown’ element of the squad which would allow us to look overseas in other positions. As well as this, Pope has recorded an 81.3% save percentage during the 20/21 season, the highest in the league (Fbref). He seems a worthy successor to our beloved Hugo.

Chelsea – Thiago Silva: Spurs’ main issue this season has been conceding goals. What better way to solve that than by drafting a decorated veteran in Thiago Silva? Yes, it would be a short term move, but it would strengthen our defence and plug that hole that seems to open every time we concede a set-piece.

Crystal Palace – Eberechi Eze: Spurs fans will have been cursing Daniel Levy when Eze signed for Palace. Most would have been aware that we were interested in the England Under-21’s player but decided not to pursue (football London). Since then, Eze has forced his way into Palace’s XI, and things are only looking up for him.

Everton – Lucas Digne: If Sergio Reguilon does choose to return to Madrid when they inevitably come knocking, Digne would be a solid replacement. The Frenchman would provide that attacking intent that Tottenham entrust into their fullbacks so often.

Fulham – Andre Anguissa: Of the Fulham games I have watched this season, Anguissa has been the focal point of the midfield. It is possible that he could provide some healthy competition for Hojbjerg and Winks.

Leeds United – Kalvin Phillips: Phillips deservedly got his senior England call up in September. He provides the perfect transition from defence to attack in a fluid Leeds team, something we have often lacked.

Leicester City – James Maddison: Like Grealish, why would you not want Maddison? The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has produced 6 goals and 5 assists in 17 appearances this season (TransferMarkt). His creative play would see us finally find that Eriksen replacement.

Liverpool – Virgil Van Dijk: Easiest one of the night. The Champions League and Premier League winner would transform our backline into a formidable outfit.

Manchester City – Phil Foden: This one was a difficult choice. I went with Foden not because of his age, but of his passion and dedication. He must have a colossal impact in training to force his way into a team alongside De Bruyne and Sterling. His talent and agility would be welcome at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Manchester United – Bruno Fernandes: I was torn here between Fernandes and Rashford. Rashford is a great professional and offers a great attacking threat. But who am I to deny the man who has more goal involvements in the league than anyone else since he signed for United? (BBC) Daniel Levy really dropped the ball there.

Newcastle United – Jamal Lewis: Lewis is only 23 and is doing a solid job considering he is playing in a poor Newcastle side. With the right coaching, he could be a great asset to the club.

Sheffield United – Josh Egan: Egan was a centrepiece in a side that came close to securing European football in their first season returning to the topflight. He would be a good rotation player to have.

Southampton – James Ward Prowse: Everyone needs a set-piece specialist in their squad, and considering Bale rarely gets a runout, JWP would be perfect for that role.

West Bromwich Albion – Conor Gallagher: Yes he is on loan from Chelsea. However, I’ve been impressed with the 20-year-old this season. He is one of the few WBA players who looks dangerous and has a lot of potential.

West Ham United – Declan Rice: It pains me to say that Rice would start for most teams in the league. He is both a solid CDM and transition player.

Wolves – Daniel Podence: This boy has talent! Should Wolves continue to struggle in the coming months, it would be well worth our time to try and pry the Portuguese away from the Molineux. His ability to dart in and out of spaces with close ball control is to be admired by many.
