‘I personally think’ – Chimbonda claims player will feel betrayed by Tottenham
Pascal Chimbonda believes that Harry Kane would feel betrayed by Tottenham Hotspur for preventing him from joining Manchester City in the summer.
Kane was heavily linked with a big-money move to City all through the summer transfer window, with the striker even allegedly not reporting in time for pre-season training in an effort to push through the transfer.
However, much to the frustration of Pep Guardiola’s side, Daniel Levy held firm and manage to hold on to the 28-year-old.
Since the failed move, the striker has looked a shadow of himself in front of goal, having found the back of the net just once in the Premier League this season.
Spurs fans would have been hoping that Antonio Conte’s arrival at Tottenham would have sparked the England captain into life but that has not quite happened, with the striker’s only goal under the Italian coming in Spurs’ 2-1 loss to NS Mura last month.
Conte has insisted that he has been happy with Kane’s performances despite his lack of goals but the Spurs boss will be hoping his star-striker finds his goalscoring boots soon.
Chimbonda believes it is only natural for Kane to feel let down by his boyhood club for preventing him from making a step up in his career.
The former Spurs defender told Ladbrokes: “As a player when you have a big opportunity arise like Harry Kane did in the summer and the club turns it down, you do feel like you’ve been betrayed a little, because you’ve given everything for the club and you didn’t get the move you wanted.
“When you play football, naturally you want the best for yourself; you want to be competing at the top level. I personally think Spurs should have let Harry go in the summer and brought in two or three strikers with the money they would’ve got for him.
“Opportunities like that don’t come around very often in a player’s career, and I don’t think it’ll come around again for Kane. He’s only scored one goal in the Premier League so far this season, which is a shame for a guy who is normally a killer in front of goal.”

Kane would have certainly been disappointed at his failed move and could well have misgivings about Tottenham’s behaviour after the service he has given to the club.
However, at the same time, Spurs are certainly within their rights to hold on to him unless City were ready to meet their valuation.
While the failed transfer was perhaps the main reason behind Kane’s slow start to the season, I do not think that is the main factor in the striker’s continued struggles.
He is lacking in confidence in front of goal at the moment, which is understandable since this is the biggest barren spell he has had since establishing himself in Tottenham’s starting lineup seven years ago.
