St. Petersburg, October 25, 2020, 00:37 – REGNUM The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case on the murder of businessman and municipal deputy Alexander Petrov in the Leningrad Region and officially confirmed the “custom” nature of this crime. Petrov, the father of the first Russian Formula 1 driver, was killed by a single sniper shot on the evening of October 24 at his home near Vyborg. The killer disappeared.

“Investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Leningrad Region have opened a criminal case on the hired murder of the deputy of the Vyborgsky District of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Petrov,” the statement on the website of the Investigative Committee of Russia says.
The criminal case was initiated under clause “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – “Murder for mercenary motives or for hire.” Such a crime is punishable by up to life imprisonment.

As established by the investigation, on the evening of Saturday, October 24, an unidentified person fired one shot from a firearm in the chest area of 61-year-old Alexander Petrov, who was on the territory of his house near Vyborg.
At the scene of the incident, the work of the investigative-operational group continues, it is personally led by the head of the investigation department of the IC of Russia in the Leningrad region.
“The circle of communication of the victim is being established, other circumstances that are important for the investigation of the criminal case,” the ICR noted.
