The companies have discussed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer the purchase of rights to show the premiere of the new part of Bond, Bloomberg reported. However, the film studio still decided to show it in cinemas and announced that the film was “not for sale.”

Apple and Netflix have negotiated with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to buy the rights to the premiere of the new James Bond film No Time to Die. Bloomberg reported this with reference to sources.

According to interlocutors of the agency, the deal could bring the film studio “hundreds of millions of dollars.” But following the negotiations, she said that she would stick to the previous plan, according to which the film will premiere in cinemas, Bloomberg reported.

When asked by the agency, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer said the film was “not for sale.”

Netflix and Apple declined to comment. Film company Amazon Studios told the agency that it is not in talks to buy the rights to the new Bond movie for its streaming service.

The premiere of the 25th MI6 secret agent James Bond film was originally supposed to take place in April. However, amid the coronavirus pandemic, cinemas had to close, and the release of the film was postponed first until November, and then completely until April 2021.

Other films that have been pushed back to next year include the superhero films Black Widow from Disney and Wonder Woman 1984 from Warner Bros., and Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by science fiction writer Frank Herbert.

At the same time, some producers chose not to postpone the premiere, but to release films on streaming services. In particular, the film Mulan was released on the Disney + platform, and the war drama Greyhound with Tom Hanks was released on Apple TV +.

The new part of Bondiana was directed by Carey Fukunaga, known as the director and executive producer of the series “True Detective”. The film stars Rami Malek (best known for his roles as Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot and Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody) and Leah Seydoux (Bond girlfriend Madeleine Swann in 007: Specter). The main role for the fifth and last time was played by British actor Daniel Craig.
