Italy to tighten restrictions on coronavirus ahead of New Year
Italy is introducing the toughest, “red” regime of coronavirus restrictions throughout the country, according to AFP. According to the decree, from December 21 to January 6, residents are only allowed to leave their homes once a day to visit friends or relatives. Bars and restaurants will also be closed in the country from 24 December.
The new rules prohibit movement between regions of Italy. At the same time, some of the travel bans will be removed from December 28 to 30, as well as December 4. On these days, shops will also be open until 21:00.
Italy is the eighth country in the world in the number of cases of COVID-19 and the second after the UK in Europe, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Coronavirus in Italy was recorded in more than 1.9 million people, 67 894 patients died. The total number of cases of infection in the world exceeds 75 million.
