Jimmy Garoppolo discusses reasons for 49ers’ zero-TD performance
We interrupt the Jimmy Garoppolo lovefest to point to one area in which the 49ers’ quarterback didn’t flourish in his starting debut Sunday: the red zone.
The 49ers didn’t score a touchdown in five trips inside the 20-yard line in a 15-14 win at Chicago. And those failings inspired several questions Wednesday when Garoppolo met the media.
“We kind of knew that’s one of the tougher areas of the field,” Garoppolo said. “That and third down are always going to take some time. But there are some good things to learn from.”
The 0-for-5 performance wasn’t all on Garoppolo, who completed 4 of 8 passes for 21 yards inside the 20.
