Buhari did not free 500 prison inmates in Kano - Presidency denies earlier reports, reveals who really did
- Reports that President Muhammadu Buhari pardoned 500 prison inmates in Kano state have been denied by the presidency
- The inmates were actually set free by the state governor, Umar Ganduje, in compliance with an earlier agreement of the National Economic Council

The presidency has denied reports that President Muhammadu Buhari pardoned 500 prison inmates in Kano state.
In tweets posted by the Presidency Office of Digital Engagement (PODE) via its official handle, @DigiCommsNG, it was disclosed that the inmates were actually pardoned by the state governor, Umar Ganduje.

NAIJ.com gathers that the governor took the action following the June 2017 National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, where it was agreed that governors should take action to decongest prisons.

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari said that no one could change the mind of Nigerians on the campaign promises he made.
The president, during a two-day working visit to Kano, said his promise of tackling corruption, insurgency and growing the economy cannot be disputed especially in the level of success recorded.
The president also vowed to de-congest prisons across the nation.
