Nigerian Armed Forces to retire 403 soldiers on December 15 - Top official discloses

- The commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Austine Jekenu, says 403 service men from the Army, the Air Force and the Navy would be retiring next week

- He states that the retirees have undergone training to prepare them for life after military service as civilians

The commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Air Vice Marshal Austine Jekenu, has disclosed that a total of 403 military personnel would retire from the armed forces next week.

Jekenu, who was represented by his deputy, Edward Nze, told journalists on Thursday, December 7 in Lagos that the retiring soldiers were drawn from the army, the Air Force and the navy, Premium Timed reports.

“A total of 403 servicemen comprising of 281 from the Nigerian Army, 17 from the Nigerian Navy and 105 from the Nigerian Air Force would be graduating from the NAFRC,’’ he said.

The commandant stated that the retirees had undergone training to prepare them for life after military service as civilians.

He said the training was done to enable the beneficiaries adjust and appropriately blend with the peculiarities of retirement.

“It is on record that over 41,400 ex-servicemen of the Nigerian Armed Forces have been trained in this centre since its inception,” he said.

The commandant said the passing out ceremony for the retirees would take place on December 15.

He stated that the minister for defence, Mansur Ali, is expected to attend the occasion.

In another report, the Nigerian army has carried out a major shakeup in the Boko Haram war with the appointment of Major General Rogers Nicholas as the new theatre commander for Operation Lafiya Dole, the joint military force battling Boko Haram terrorists in the northeast.

Vanguard reports that Major General Nicholas is taking over from Major General Ibrahim Attahiru who has been redeployed to army headquarters as the deputy chief of policy and plans.

Attahiru, who took over from Major general Leo Irabor, was at different times, director of administration, Defence Headquarters and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Enugu.
