Jennifer Lawrence to Star in ‘Burial Rites’ by ‘Call Me by Your Name’ Director
Luca Guadagnino will direct Jennifer Lawrence in the true crime drama, “Burial Rites,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Lawrence will also produce the movie for TriStar Pictures, which has the worldwide rights to the film.
The film will be based on Hannah Kent’s 2013 novel of the same name. Lawrence will star as Agnes Magnusdottir, the last woman to be publicly executed in Iceland in 1830 for killing two men and setting their homes on fire.

In the movie, Agnes will await confirmation of her death sentence and reflect on her crimes.
Guadagnino is in the thick of awards season buzz for “Call Me by Your Name,” which stars Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer. It picked up three Golden Globe nominations on Monday. He also directed “A Bigger Splash” and “I am Love.” His upcoming project is a remake of “Suspiria,” the 1970s cult horror film out of Italy.
Lawrence’s most recent credits include “mother!” “Passengers” and “Joy.” Her upcoming films include “Red Sparrow” and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix,” in which she will reprise her role as Mystique.

Allison Shearmur and Justine Ciarrocchi will produce alongside Lawrence. Gary Ross and Jerry Kalajian will executive produce.
Lawrence is represented by CAA, while Guadagnino is repped by WME.
