Cape Town City to face Swazi side in 2018 Confederation Cup
CAPE TOWN - Cape Town City have been drawn to play Young Buffaloes of Swaziland in the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup next year.
The Cape side qualified for a spot in the event after finishing in third position on last season’s PSL log standings. Having only been established as a club in June last year, this will be their debut in African inter-club competition.
The dates for the two qualifying rounds are February 9-11 and February 16-18 next year.
City boss John Comitis was looking forward to his club taking its place in such a prestigious continental event.
“I’m especially happy with the proximity of the team we will be facing,” said Comitis. “I’m confident that we will get off to a good start.”
The draw for the preliminary rounds of the CAF Confederations Cup and the African Champions League was conducted in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.
The other SA club in the CAF Confederation Cup is SuperSport United – and they will take on the winner of the preliminary round clash between Angola’s Atletico Petroleos and Malawi’s Master Security.
In the Champions League, PSL champions Bidvest Wits will face Pamplemousses of Mauritius in the preliminary round, while Mamelodi Sundowns go straight into the group stages and will be up against either LLB Académic FC from Burundi or Rayon Sport of Rwanda.
