Manny Machado’s 2 home runs in 2 at bats remind the Yankees what they’ll be bidding on in free agency
New York got to experience Machado’s might firsthand Friday night.
Manny Machado is going to be a free agent this season, and after Bryce Harper and his potential $400 million contract he’s the next biggest fish in what will be a stacked free agency class. One of the top suitors for Machado, who already reportedly made overtures to acquire him from the Orioles via trade this offseason, is the Yankees.
Well on Friday night in New York Machado gave the Yankees a close up look at what they’ll eventually be bidding for, with two home runs off of CC Sabathia in as many at bats.
The first one, he jacked. It sailed into the second deck of Yankee Stadium smoother than an America’s Cup yacht.

The second one landed in the Orioles’ bullpen, as if Machado was just saying “hey” to his teammates watching the game from center field. 89 mph and up in the zone? That was never going to go well for Sabathia.

This performance — which is far from over as its only the top of the fourth in the Bronx right now — is only a reminder of why teams will be scrambling for Machado’s services at the end of the year. The Yankees will 100% be one of those teams, and if they land him then his tendency to tear apart pitching staffs like this (especially Sabathia) will just be a fun memory.
