Bruce Maxwell adjusting to A’s backup catcher role
ANAHEIM - Bruce Maxwell is in something of a new situation: For the first time in his career, he won’t get the bulk of the playing time at catcher.
Maxwell is now the A’s backup behind Jonathan Lucroy, acquired during spring training, and he’s learning to adjust to limited at-bats.
“Honestly, I’m not worrying about it,” Maxwell said. “I’m just trying to make sure I’m always prepared, that’s the hardest part - the extra stuff, away from the field, that’s what I need to make sure I stay on top of, doing all my extra work. Honestly, I’m adjusting a lot better than I thought I would.”
