Louis Oosthuizen the leading South African at the Masters
South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen fired a second successive 71 to move to two-under after two rounds of the Masters at Augusta, Georgia, on Friday.
American Patrick Reed shit six-under 66 and held the lead on nine-under seven shots ahead of Oosthuizen.
Australia’s Marc Leishman was second on seven-under.
The 35-year-old Oosthuizen’s one-under effort was impressive on a day of difficult scoring, which saw first round leader Jordan Spieth of America struggle to a two-over 74 that dropped him down the leaderboard to a share of fourth on four-under.
The 2010 Open champion was a measure of consistency on day two, with six pars two birdies and a solitary bogey on an opening nine of one-under 35.
Coming home, he picked up a birdie on the par-five 13th to close out Amen Corner (holes 11 to 13).
A deflating bogey at the reachable par-five 15th scuppered his chances of breaking 70, but two pars to end his round were good enough to see Oosthuizen rise eight places on the day.
Branden Grace was the only other South African to make the cut, with a second successive round of 73 to end on two-over after round two in 28th place.
Charl Schwartzel, 2011 Masters champion, battled with a six-over 78 to end off six-over and miss the cut by one.
Masters debutant Dylan Frittelli improved on his opening 77 with a two-over 74, but his two-round total of seven-over would see him miss the weekend by two.
The 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman signed for a 75 after his first-round 78 to end his run in this year’s tournament on nine-over.
