Saturday’s Masters schedule
Patrick Reed’s best finish at the Masters was tying for 22nd place three years ago. But he heads into the weekend at Augusta with the 36-hole lead at the world’s great golf tournament.
Reed shot a 66 on Friday, the best score of the day, and at 9-under par holds a two-stroke advantage over Marc Leishman, his playing partner on Saturday, teeing off at 2:30 p.m. ET in the third round.
This is Reed’s fifth Masters. In addition to tying for 22nd in 2015, he missed the cut in 2014 and 2017 and finished tied for 49th in 2016. This is the second straight strong showing at a major for the 27-year-old Texan, who tied for second place at last year’s PGA Championship.
“Everyone wants to win (majors), and if you don’t believe you can win them, then you probably shouldn’t be playing in them,” Reed said on Friday, per Golf Week. “I believe that if I play the golf that I know how to play, that I can win majors.”
So far so good for Reed, who is aware there is still much work left to do.
