April marks start of trout season in New York
In spite of Pennsylvania's famous groundhog and his failure to predict the advent of spring, it appears to have finally arrived. With the change from winter comes a rite of passage as one season ends and another begins. All of which is a fancy way of saying, "We finally made it to the opening of trout season!"
While we've waited and waited for warmer weather, we aren't completely out of winter's grip. I called my buddy Jim Kelso to see about getting in some steelhead fishing along Lake Ontario and the prognosis wasn't good. "The water temperature is only about 34 degrees, so it doesn't look good for this week," Kelso said.
