A’s first baseman Matt Olson gets a breather
ANAHEIM - Matt Olson, who in his first full big-league season is the only A’s player to appear in each of Oakland’s first 116 games, got a start off Saturday evening at Angel Stadium.
After hitting nine homers and driving in 22 runs in 27 games in June, Olson has four homers and 11 RBIs in the past 32 games, but he has continued to play superb defense, his at-bats have been good (his walks are up - 19 in those 32 games) and he’s provided some big hits. Lately, he’s picking up the pace, going 11 for his past 37 going into Saturday.
“He does some really good things and you look up and he’s got 20-some home runs,” Melvin said. “If that’s a rough time for him, then we’ll take it.
