All set for Zamfara APC governorship primary as aspirant seeks President Buhari's intervention

- The Zamfara state chapter of the APC is set to hold its primary election on Tuesday, October 2

- Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa has urged members of the APC to participate in the exercise without any fear of intimidation

- The senator also called for the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari and the police

Chairman of the Senate committee on petroleum (downstream), Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, has urged members of the APC in Zamfara state to remain calm and come out for the party primary election scheduled for Tuesday, October 2.

The senator urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to stop Governor Abduaziz Yari from disrupting the process.

Governor Yari had while addressing newsmen in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital, recently threatened that there will be crisis in the state if the election is held in a certain way.

There have been disagreements by chieftains of the party in the state on whether to conduct direct or indirect primary.

While Governor Yari is in favour of indirect primary, Senator Marafa and other governorship aspirants are rooting for th direct primary option.

Marafa in a statement sent to journalists urged President Buhari and the IGP to stop Governor Yari from causing mayhem over the party primary.

His words: “It is unfortunate that a governor that has turned a blind eye to the death of thousands will threaten to cause bloodbath in his state because of party issues. What a shame?

“For me, my ambition is premised on the need to salvage the state from total collapse! It is not a do-or-die affair. The lives of our people are more important. No stone would be left unturned in protecting the lives and property of our people.”

He said audio clips of the governor's threats would be made available to the president, the IGP, all relevant security agencies and the international community.

He called on all party members to come out enmasse to exercise their rights and vote for him.

Senator Marafa had earlier affirmed he would participate in the primary after initially giving hint that he might stay away from the exercise.

In a statement sent to NAIJ.com by his media office, the APC senator said he and million of his supporters in across the state are participating based on assurances that the exercise would be conducted through direct primary mode.
