Ambode poised to win Lagos APC primary election - Campaign group

- Governor Akunwunmi Ambode is insisting he is still in the APC primary race

- The governor expressed optimism in his winning the election

- He denied conceding defeat to anyone

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos has reportedly said he is poised to win the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.

Vanguard reports that the Ambode Campaign Organisation in a statement also denied report that the governor had withdrawn from the primary election.

It insisted that no election took place in the state, saying: “There are guidelines and procedures which the National Working Committee (NWC) has insisted must be followed in conducting a credible poll. These include the usage of membership slips and membership cards by registered party members as well as the adoption of secret ballot system which protects the electorate.

“The NWC came from Abuja with sufficient ballot papers which are yet to be distributed. As a loyal and responsible party member and a democrat, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is guided by the process announced by the party and shall await the new date of the governorship primary election.

“We urge all party members and our teeming supporters to remain calm and peaceful and to refuse to be intimidated. Governor Ambode is still very much in the race and is poised to win in order to continue the good works he has been doing in the last three and half years.”

Meanwhille, Clement Ebiri, chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee has explained why the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC postponed the Lagos state governorship primary election.

According to Sahara Reporters, Ebiri who had earlier distanced the committee from the election that took place in some areas of Lagos said the committee got the list of the party agents of one of the aspirants in the race late.

He added that all materials meant for the election were still in their custody, hence election could not have held.

"We reached out to the party executives to submit list that would be utilised for the purpose of posting officials to supervise the elections. That list only arrived about an hour ago and so anything that was done without the list that we wanted ... because we wanted harmony, so we waited for them. We waited for about 10 hours without getting anything," he said.
