Hillary Clinton Balks at Brett Kavanaugh’s ‘Revenge’ Comment: ‘It Deserves a Lot of Laughter’
Hillary Clinton laughed off Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s stance on sexual misconduct accusations against him, which he said are part of “revenge on behalf of the Clintons.” To that, Clinton said his statement “deserves a lot of laughter.”
During his testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary last Thursday, Kavanaugh — who worked on the Starr report that triggered President Bill Clinton’s impeachment — testified that Christine Blasey Ford’s accusations against him were “a calculated and orchestrated political hit, fueled with apparent pent-up anger about President Trump and the 2016 election” and “revenge on behalf of the Clintons.”
“It deserves a lot of laughter,” a chuckling Clinton said at an Atlantic Festival event on Tuesday. “Boy, I tell you, they give us a lot of credit.”

Clinton put Kavanaugh’s theory to the test, saying, “It would’ve had to have happened starting 36 years ago and that seems a stretch even for the vast Right-wing conspiracy stories about me.” She added that the Supreme Court nominee’s remark was “just part of the whole of his very defensive and un-convincing presentation.”
Clinton wondered aloud about his “judicial temperament.” “We want judges, particularly those on our highest court, to approach issues, approach plaintiffs and defendants, with a sense of fairness,” she said, adding, “There is a lot to be concerned about.”
Clinton also praised two sexual assault survivors who confronted Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake in an elevator as he was on his way to vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
“I think what is happening is that on many, many fronts, young women and girls are saying, you have to hear our stories, too,” Clinton said. “We have the right to be heard, and I remember we saw it all on TV. Those young women following Senator Flake into the elevator. And they were determined that he would know that there were young women like them, representing many, many more who wanted to be heard and wanted their stories to be taken seriously.”
