Buying a safe?

Did anyone ever buy a safe? I am thinking of getting a small one. Probably a cubic foot or less. I have read that the big box store safes are pretty much a waste of money when it comes to theft. But the only thing I might keep in it is some personal papers and maybe $500 in cash. So if someone breaks in, it is probably not the end of the world and certainly better than what I have now.

So if you bought a safe, did you go with the big box store safe or did you go to a lock and sfe store?
