Amateur Dong wins Hyundai Open crown

Tashi Dong won the title of the Hyundai Open Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, the two-handicap amateur golfer Dong finished first on count back after being tied on 39 points with Madhav Simkhada. Dong, who carded six birdies in his round, scored 19 points on the back nine, while five-handicapper Simkhada earned 17 points.
With the trophy, the former national football team player Dong received Garmin S60 Premium GPS golf watch and Bushnell V4 Range finder worth Rs 120,000. Runner-up Simkhada received Garmin S20 GPS golf watch.
Sangam KC finished third, also on count back after being tied on 38 points with Bharat Bastakoti and received Garmin S60 GPS golf watch. KC scored 20 points on back nine, while Bastakoti earned 18. Tashi Tshiring won the gross section award with 38 points and he received Garmin S60 Premium GPS golf watch along with the trophy.
Kalyani Moktan lifted the women’s category trophy on count back after she was tied on 30 points with Rekha Ghimire. Moktan earned 14 points on the back nine, while Ghimire scored 12.
Gopal Chitrakar claimed the senior category trophy with the score of 37, while Sadbhav Acharya won the junior section trophy with 19 points. Sameer Acharya was the winner among Hyundai car owners with 38 points. The winners received Garmin S20 GPS golf watch.
Tashi Dong bagged the most birdies award on count back after being tied on six birdies with Tashi Tshiting, while Gaurab Shah and Sam Doublard claimed the closest-to-the-pin and longest drive trophies. They got Garmin S20 GPS golf watch each.
A total of 108 golfers took part in the tournament sponsored by Laxmi Intercontinental Pvt Ltd, the sole authorised distributor of Hyundai cars in Nepal. South Korean Ambassador to Nepal Park Young-sik, Chairman of Laxmi Group Ganesh Bahadur Shrestha and President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners.
