A Sergio Aguero double and a Bernardo Silva striker kept Pep Guardiola’s hopes of the quadruple alive but the result was marred once again by further arrests.

South Wales Police revealed a 16-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys were being held in custody and Guardiola admitted he feared future problems from supporters.

He said: “It’s happened a few times lately and it’s a worry because in the future we could have problems.

“It’s not nice but thankfully nothing happened this time.”

In a statement, South Wales Police match commander Superintendent Steve Jones, said: “The safety of supporters, players, officials and those who work these games is paramount.

“Those who invade the playing area are committing a criminal offence, will be dealt with robustly and could face lengthy bans from all football matches.

“We will continue to work with the football club to prevent and deter this unacceptable behaviour from a very small minority continuing.”

Earlier in the day, seven fans were also detained at Bournemouth, including a 14-year-old boy, after visiting fans invade the pitch to celebrate Newcastle’s late equaliser, while there were also problems at West Ham.

Last Sunday, Jack Grealish was attacked by a Birmingham-supporting thug during their massive derby clash with Aston Villa.

Paul Mitchell was jailed for 14 weeks and banned from football matches for ten years, while Tyson Fury’s cousin stormed the Emirates pitch and shoved Chris Smalling during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Man Utd hours later.

An Aston Villa fan then charged on to the pitch during their 3-1 win away to Nottingham Forest after Kourtney Hause netted his first goal for the club.

And, a West Ham fan was also guilty of encroaching the field of play after the Hammers masterminded an incredible comeback at home to win 4-3 against Huddersfield.
