Sunnyvale community briefs for the week of March 22
CASA Compact forum
The League of Women Voters of Santa Clara County and the Bay Area is hosting a public forum April 6 on “The CASA Compact: Proposals on How to Provide Affordable Housing in the Bay Area.”
A panel of speakers will present various opinions on the compact, developed by the Committee to House the Bay Area to address the lack of affordable housing. Speakers include Anita Enander, Los Altos City Council; Liz Gibbons, Campbell City Council; Michael Goldman, Sunnyvale City Council; Ken Kirkey, planning director for the Metropolitan Transportation Commission; and Michael Lane, deputy director of Silicon Valley at Home.
Audience members will have the opportunity to participate in a moderated question-and-answer session. The forum is set for 9:45-11:30 a.m. in the Roosevelt Room of the Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave. For more information, contact lwv.swscv@gmail.com.
Bees at the library
Learn about best beekeeping practices, honeybee biology and city ordinances regarding beekeeping at a presentation from the Santa Clara Valley Beekeepers Guild. The March 24 presentation at the Sunnyvale Library includes a hands-on exhibit with demonstration hive and honey extractor.
The presentation is set for 2-4 p.m. in the library’s program room, 665 W. Olive Ave.
English-Mandarin health fair
The Sunnyvale Library is hosting an English-Mandarin Community Health Fair March 31, 1:30-3 p.m. The fair will feature information on health and nutrition resources, a lecture on “Nutrition/Healthy Eating and Exercise” in English and Mandarin, snacks and giveaways.
The health fair is presented by the City of Sunnyvale and Sunnyvale Community Services.
