BJP leaders raise free power issue

Sunil Kumar, the energy minister for the state of Mysuru, and Pratap Simha, the MP for the same district, spoke at an event on Friday to inaugurate new buildings and lay foundation stones for power transmission centers in Mysuru. They said that people are not asking for free power, but rather quality energy. Delhi is a metropolitan city, and as a result, it generates a lot of revenue and therefore power is given free there.

Agri min stresses on chemical-free crops

The state agriculture minister said that the government has given importance to production of nutritional supplement crops, while fulfilling food security needs of the people. He said that diseases like diabetes and blood pressure are caused by consumption of crops grown by excessive use of chemicals and fertilisers, and that farmers in several countries are taking up millet cultivation realizing its importance to health. The government has also initiated measures to attract youths to take up agriculture, and made it a profitable profession.

Rescued tiger dies in Mysuru

A tiger that was rescued from Kodagu in India died early Thursday. The zoo director said the 12-year-old tiger was brought from Kushalnagar on Wednesday but died early Thursday. The tiger died of multiple organ failure. It was being treated at the Chamundi Rescue Centre, which is a home for rescued injured wild animals run by the zoo.

Central Institute of Psychiatry, pvt school ink deal

The central institute of psychiatry, CIP, will now provide mental health services, including checkup counselling and awareness about different mental conditions, to school children particularly adolescents of the Chiranjeevee concept school here. JD(S) won’t win more than 20 seats, says Siddaramaiah

The former CM of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, predicted that the JD(S) would not win more than 20 seats in the forthcoming elections. Siddaramaiah said that the regional party was not the dominant force it had once been, and its strength had been waning. However, former CM and senior JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy was touring the state claiming that his party would win 120 seats. The party would not cross the 20seat mark, according to Siddaramaiah.

CBI registers case against Kolkata bizman, Bengal cops

The central bureau of investigation, CBI, has registered a case against a trader from Kolkata, Amit Agrawal, and unknown officials of the Kolkata Police Department in connection with the seizure of Rs 50 lakh from the Jharkhand High Court Advocate Rajeev Kumar on July 31 last year. The case has been registered under Sections 120B and 182 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Dilapidated police lines to be revamped: CM

The Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday said that police lines training centres and camps which face acute shortage of basic facilities will be renovated in the coming two years inaugurating a 500-capacity auditorium and other infrastructure at the Jharkhand Armed Policei Ground in Ranchi. Mr. Soren said that the state government aims to make all police lines and camps including those in the farflung areas well-equipped. 86% of Class III kids unable to read Class II books: ASER

In Jharkhand, 86% of class III students are unable to read sentences and words from class II textbooks. The latest annual status of education report says that the survey covered 28196 pupils between the age group of three and 16 from 720 villages of all 24 districts in the state. CoBRA jawan hurt in fresh W S’bhum blast

20 bus passengers from Gaya injured in Ramgarh accident

A passenger bus traveling from Gaya in Bihar to Ranchi overturned on the NH33 near Patel Chowk in Ramgarh Suburban Area on Friday, injuring around 20 passengers. Four of the passengers sustained critical injuries and were admitted to the Ramgarh Sadar Hospital.
