At least 50,000 spectators were expected to watch the Cardiff half marathon today.
The course has become the UK’s third biggest race after the London Marathon and the Great North Run.
The marathon has already made news, as more women are expected to be running than men for the first time ever.

When is the Cardiff half marathon?
The 17th Cardiff half marathon kicked off today, Sunday 6 October at 10am.
The wheelchair race started five minutes earlier.
How many women are running the Cardiff half marathon?
The BBC reports that a record 27,500 runners will take on the third biggest running event in the UK today – if any of them are reading after crossing the finish line, this might help soothe some aches and pains.
Of those more than half will be women – outnumbering men in the race for the first time ever.
It’s been reported that 51% of the total entry of runners this year are female.
Marathon fever seems to be sweeping Brits across the country as the London Marathon ballot saw record-breaking numbers.
Cardiff half marathon route
The route is the same as last year’s.
Runners start in front of Cardiff Castle before heading past Cardiff City Stadium, through Penarth Marina, past the Wales Millennium Centre before looping Roath Park Lake and finishing along Edward VII Avenue in the civic centre.
