Tammy Abraham opener only just makes it over the line after Southampton calamity versus Chelsea
TAMMY ABRAHAM notched the opening goal in Chelsea’s game against Southampton on Sunday with help from goalline technology – and the hosts’ defence.
A ball over the top from Callum Hudson-Odoi set the English forward on his way towards goal but goalkeeper Angus Gunn seemingly had time to clear his lines.
The goalkeeper decided to stay in his area and Abraham pipped him to the ball.
Opting to chip it into the net, his effort launched high into the air and finally looped down as Maya Yoshida ran back.
Again, the Saints’ decision making was questionable as the centre-back opted to try and volley it clear rather than head it out from under his bar.
Alas his connection came too late and the ball had already crept over the line.
Goalline technology confirmed the strike within seconds, with the linesman never getting a clear view of the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment.
The effort made it two in two for the 22-year-old after his goal against Lille in the Champions League.

Moving on to eight goals in the Premier League this season, Abraham went level at the top of the scorers’ leaderboard alongside Sergio Aguero.
And he will get his chance to impress on the international stage next week when fulfilling his first call-up to the England senior side.
Gareth Southgate could reward the striker’s form with an outing against either Bulgaria or Montenegro.
