Marin pumpkin patches open for exploration
Boasting thousands of pumpkins — and many family-friendly attractions such as a hay maze, farm animals and bounce houses — the Nicasio Valley Pumpkin Patch is ushering in the Halloween season.
In its 24th year, the patch started offering up organic pumpkins at 5300 Nicasio Valley Road on Sept. 28 and is open through Halloween night. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the weekends and 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays.
“We tell people to come out and buy some pumpkins, but a lot of families come out and take a break from life to be out in open space,” said Heidi Falkenberg, manager of the pumpkin patch.
Other attractions at the 8-acre patch this year include ice cream, a farm stand and barbecue on the weekends. There are weekly performances by children’s artist Tim Cain on Sundays starting at 11:30 a.m. The Marin Girls Chorus will perform at 11 a.m. Oct. 26. More information is online at bit.ly/31P7xXi.
Other longstanding Marin pumpkin patches include the Godmothers of St. Vincent’s School for Boys Pumpkin Patch on St. Vincent’s Drive off Highway 101 in San Rafael.
The annual pumpkin patch opened Saturday with activities such as bounce houses, face painting and pumpkins. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday through Oct. 27. More information is at godmothers.org.
