San Jose community briefs for the week of Nov. 1

Emergency training

The City of San Jose has developed a plan to educate residents on how to prepare for natural disasters and the loss of city and county services in the event of an emergency. Staff members from the city’s Office of Emergency Management will be available to attend community events to help train residents on how to prepare for and react to an emergency. The city is also urging residents to sign up for Community Emergency Response Team training and the countywide emergency alert system at http://bit.ly/2BzQxt0. Residents can email aurelia.bailey@sanjoseca.gov to schedule events and receive more information.

Homelessness survey

Nov. 1 is the last day to submit feedback on the countywide plan to end homelessness. San Jose residents can provide anonymous feedback on what services the county should prioritize for homeless residents. The survey will close at 8 p.m. and can be found online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SCCCmtyPlan.

Tax amnesty

San Jose is offering financial forgiveness to businesses and individuals who have never registered their business, who have failed to pay business taxes or who have misreported their size on tax forms. The San Jose Business Tax Amnesty Program will allow these residents to resolve their debts while being forgiven for penalties and interest. The program will run through March 2020.
