Jamie Carragher says Liverpool FC star silenced critics in 2-1 win over Spurs
Jamie Carragher believes Jordan Henderson silenced his critics thanks to his goal in Liverpool FC’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday evening.
The Premier League leaders were looking to restore their six-point advantage at the top of the table after Manchester City were 3-0 winners against Aston Villa on Saturday.
However, Tottenham striker Harry Kane broke the deadlock inside 47 seconds when the England international guided a header into the net after Son Heung-min’s shot hit the crossbar.
Liverpool FC replied with a strong performance in the remainder of the first half before Henderson finally equalised for the home side in the 52nd minute at Anfield.
The Liverpool FC captain got on the end of Andy Robertson’s cross before Henderson steered a finish into the opposite corner of the net.
The 29-year-old’s goal was his first of the Premier League season to provide the home side with a springboard to go on and score a winner.
Mohamed Salah netted the winner from the penalty spot with 15 minutes to go after Serge Aurier was brought down by Sadio Mane.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher was impressed with Henderson’s goal.
“The crowd were getting on his back in the first half,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“There was a lot of talk whether Henderson would play on the back of what happened mid-week after Oxlade-Chamberlain got two goals. The midfield has been criticised for not scoring enough goals. He certainly answered it at the start of the first half.”
Henderson has only managed to score one Premier League goal in the last four Premier League season.
The former Sunderland midfielder has netted 23 times in 248 games in the Premier League since his move to Liverpool FC back in 2011.
Liverpool FC will make the trip to Aston Villa in their next Premier League game at Villa Park on Saturday.
