Salah from the spot to send dominant Liverpool six points clear
Mo Salah scored the winner from the penalty spot as a dominant Liverpool came from behind to beat Tottenahm 2-1 at Anfield.
Harry Kane got Spurs off to a flying start as they took the lead less than a minute into the game, stooping to head in expertly after Son Heung-min’s deflected shot came off the post.
The visitors then missed a chance to double their lead as they opened Liverpool’s defence up with ease, but Kane was unable to pick out Dele All, who was free in the centre.
Liverpool started to find their feet midway through the first half and would have been ahead before the break were it not for Paulo Gazzaniga.
The Argentine stopper made a fine double save from Mo Salah and Roberto Fimino, then pushed Virgil van Dijk’s header over the bar, before parrying Trent Alexander-Arnold’s fierce drive.
Alexander-Arnold then drifted a beautiful pass on to the head of Sadio Mane, but the Senagelese international got his header all wrong.
Gazzaniga was again called into action early in the second half, blocking Roberto Fimino’s point-blank header.
Son then had a chance to double Spurs’ lead against the run of play but fired against the crossbar having rounded Alisson in the Liverpool goal.
Jorda Henderson finally scored a deserved equaliser for Liverpool in the 52nd minute, as he sneaked round the back post to hit his shot past the obdurate Gazzaniga.
Salah then gave Liverpool the lead with 15 minutes remaining, smashing the ball in from the penalty spot after Serge Aurier kicked Mane as he attempted to clear in the area.
Danny Rose missed a huge chance to steal a point for Spurs in the last minute of normal time as he blazed over having cut into the box on his right foot.
But Liverpool hung on to move six points clear at the top of the Premier League.
