‘Schitt’s’ happens at the Golden Globes? Our top users think it might this year
According to the combined predictions of more than 1,000 Gold Derby users, “Schitt’s Creek” is on the bubble in multiple categories at the Golden Globes, but it’s not among the top five likely contenders in any categories thus far. So there’s a chance it could sweep the nominations, but there’s also a chance it could be shut out. Some of our Top 24 Users are betting on a sweep.
Our Top 24 got the highest scores predicting last year’s Golden Globe nominations, and though “Schitt’s Creek” ranks sixth overall with 13/1 odds, seven of these elite users are betting on it to make the cut. The Golden Globes usually prefer to honor new shows to established favorites, but “Schitt’s” is a little bit of both.
Though the show will start its sixth and final season in January, it has flown under the radar for so long it still has that new car smell. And since the Pop TV series has been available to stream on Netflix, its buzz has grown to the point where it now has the cool factor that other shows are usually running out of at this point during their runs.
There are also seven top users predicting a Best TV Comedy/Musical Actor nomination for Eugene Levy to match the Emmy nomination he just got for the show. And three believe Catherine O’Hara will make the cut for Best TV Comedy/Musical Actress. Though they’re both Emmy-winning TV veterans, neither of them has been nominated for a Globe before, so just like the show, they’re both new to these awards even though they’re hardly new to the industry.
None of our Top 24 are currently predicting a Best TV Supporting Actor nomination for Dan Levy, but to be fair that category is a lot more crowded since it doesn’t just include supporting actors from comedies, but also dramas, movies and limited series. Don’t count him out, though. The Globes often like comedic scene-stealers in that race, including past winners Jeremy Piven (“Entourage”) and Chris Colfer (“Glee”) and nominees Max Greenfield (“New Girl”), Eric Stonestreet (“Modern Family”) and Henry Winkler (“Barry”).
So how many times do you think “Schitt” will happen at this year’s Globes?
