Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Arsenal v Man City
Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester City to win 2-0 against Arsenal at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners secured their first Premier League victory under caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg earlier this week.
Arsenal came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Monday night courtesy of goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Martinelli.
The north London side are currently off the pace in the race to secure a Champions League qualification spot for next term.
Manchester City, meanwhile, lost 2-1 to Manchester United at The Etihad last weekend to lose further ground on Premier League leaders Liverpool FC.
The Citizens have lost two of their last six Premier League games to drop down to third place in the English top flight.
However, former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Manchester City to return to winning ways against Arsenal at The Emirates on Saturday.
“Other than their defence, I don’t think Arsenal need an awful lot of work in order to become a top-four side, which is why their vacant manager’s job might appeal to Carlo Ancelotti now he has left Napoli,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“I don’t see interim boss Ljungberg being offered the post on a permanent basis, and I don’t see that changing even if his side win this game – but he could hold the fort until the summer if needed.
“Will Arsenal win? No.
“City won comfortably in Europe on Wednesday night after making a few changes and I am expecting to see a response to their derby defeat when their regulars return to action for this one.”
Manchester City have won the Premier League title in the last two seasons under Guardiola.
The Citizens were 4-1 winners against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night to finish seven points ahead of second-placed Atalanta in their Champions League group.
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term.
