Man found dead in northeast Columbus home after nearly 10-hour barricade situation
COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A man was found dead inside a home in northeast Columbus early Sunday morning after a nearly 10-hour barricade situation.
Columbus Police said a suspect was found dead at 3 a.m. Sunday after he allegedly threatened officers during a barricade situation that began before 5 p.m. Saturday.
According to police, the suspect fired shots out of a window on Headford Court near French Park Drive.
An officer on the scene said the person at the center of the barricade situation had threatened officers, allegedly saying he would shoot them if he sees them.
Columbus Police tweeted the situation began as a domestic situation between a husband and wife. The wife was able to escape from the home unharmed and called the police from somewhere else.
When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect began firing from the home. Police have not said if those shots were aimed at them.
The suspect was barricaded inside the home with pets inside.
Neighbors were evacuated for their safety.
Police encouraged people to stay away from the area for their own safety.
During the barricade situation, police did not allow people to come back in the area until it is safe.
An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
