Sheffield Utd 2-0 ASTON VILLA
Aston Villa fell to their seventh defeat on the road this Premier League campaign, losing 2-0 to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Without Tyrone Mings, Dean Smith elected Kortney Hause as his amicable replacement. Whilst Henri Lansbury also made his top-flight debut in replacement of Douglas Luiz.
Though Villa wouldn’t win the midfield battle. Indeed two John Fleck goals were enough to win all the points for Chris Wilder’s side. The Blades hadn’t beaten Villa in the top flight since 1991.
High flying Sheffield United
Villa kept their high flying hosts quiet in a first half that offered very little for either side. Villa created precious little as they protected a sort after clean sheet at the break.
Sheffield United boast the third-best defensive record in the league, but the same cannot be said for a frail Villa backline that. Chris Basham opened up, crumbled when John Fleck set his sights on the goal. Finishing past Tom Heaton, United were on course for a second win on the trot.
Fleck doubled their advantage but once more placing beyond Heaton inside the box.
Not Villa’s day
Jack Grealish could’ve halved Villa’s deficit from the penalty spot, but his strike could only smack the base of Dean Henderson’s crossbar.
Jonathan Kodjia got a run out from the substitutes bench as he replaced an uninspired Wesley, without a goal in his last nine.
Dean Smith’s men will now gear up for a Carabao Cup quarter-final against a Liverpool 11 on Tuesday night.
