Tribal Gal wins $100,000 Oak Tree Distaff at Alameda County Fair
Continuing to take advantage of an equine version of dual citizenship, Tribal Gal won the $100,000 Oak Tree Distaff for the second straight year Saturday at the Alameda County Fair.
The 6-furlong race for fillies and mares is restricted to horses bred in California or whose sire stands in California.
“It gives us the opportunity to plan a lot of things,” trainer Kory Owens said.
Tribal Gal overtook Frisco Fog in early stretch and easily held off the closing charge of Princess Bertrando to win by 2¼ lengths in 1:10.19.
“She’s just a classy filly,” said jockey Ricardo Gonzalez, who also rode Tribal Gal in last years’ Oak Tree Distaff.
The victory was Tribal Gal’s 10th in 27 starts, and it increased the 5-year-old mare’s career earnings to $445,801.
