Ruptured San Francisco gas line spews flames
A ruptured Pacific Gas and Electric Co. gas line caused flames to briefly shoot from the ground in San Francisco’s Sunset District Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Around 2:15 p.m., a gas line busted open — possibly after being punctured by a non-PG&E construction crew — near the corner of 48th Avenue and Taraval Street across from Ocean Beach, city fire officials said.
Flames were briefly seen shooting up from the leak, but there was no threat to any of the surrounding buildings and there was no danger of an explosion, said Mindy Talmadge, a fire department spokeswoman.
