Quakes, Galaxy do it again in U.S. Open Cup at Avaya
Four days ago, the Quakes beat the MLS-champion Galaxy 3-1 in front of 52,422 people at Stanford Stadium in the first Clasico of the season.
[...] the sides play for a spot in the West final of the single-elimination tournament.
The Quakes did not lose in June, tying FC Dallas (0-0) in MLS play, defeating Sacramento Republic FC on penalty kicks in the Cup, and then winning consecutive MLS games against Seattle (2-0) and the Galaxy.
Before Saturday’s loss, the Galaxy had dismantled their last two MLS opponents, scoring five goals in each game.
San Jose will be without all-time leading scorer Chris Wondolowski, who is preparing for the U.S. national team’s July 7 Gold Cup opener.
Sanna Nyassi is the next leading scorer this season with two goals, behind Wondolowski’s nine.
