The Office's Leslie David Baker Teases Stanley's Return In New Videos
Leslie David Baker, who played Stanley Hudson on The Office hints that audiences might soon see the return of his beloved character. This would be the first time viewers will have seen the character since the show’s finale in 2013.
The Office has become one of the most well-known shows on American television, and is often referred to as a go-to comedy for viewers. Though the story focused on the main characters Jim, Pam, and Michael, the eclectic cast of side characters garnered deep appreciation from fans. One such character was Stanley Hudson (Leslie David Baker), a disinterested and sarcastic sales representative who appeared in almost every episode. Though Stanley was well-loved, neither he nor any of the other side characters have previously received any sort of spin-off series.
However, a set of videos posted by Leslie David Baker hints that a new The Office-related project might be in the works. In one video, we can see the actor sitting on his porch in a bright Hawaiian shirt talking to the camera in his “Stan” voice, saying, “So, you wanted to know how to get me out of retirement. Well, now you know.” This quote seems to be making reference to the fact that Stanley is retired on the show, but would be “coming out of retirement” to do a new project. In the second video, he adds, “I’m gonna need a cocktail if I’m staying.”
The captions of both videos encourage viewers to click the link in the account bio, which navigates to a Kickstarter page for a project called Uncle Stan. The Kickstarter itself hasn’t launched yet, and details on the page are scarce. The nature of the project is unclear, but despite our April Fool’s Day article, we know that NBC has not announced any sort of reboot of The Office. It is possible that Uncle Stan could be an independent project from Baker, or could even be a special charity event making use of the Stanley character.
Whatever form it takes, the bigger question is what Uncle Stan will be about. Though there’s been some fan speculation as to what happened to the main characters after the last season of The Office, there’s been almost no information about the fate of the side characters. Uncle Stan could be a chance to see what The Office characters like Stanley have been up to since the show ended. It’s unclear whether Leslie David Baker’s project will impact the world of The Office or whether it will be a new stand-alone project. With as many fans as The Office has, however, practically anything with the show's characters is going to get attention.
