But have you ever thought of it as a go-to when doing your hair and make-up?  The social media platform offers a wealth of lesser-known beauty tips  and has helped make some of the beauty vloggers very rich after their short videos went  viral.

We find out, rating a selection of TikTok beauty ideas out of ten.

Baking powder highlighter

WHILE most of us would rush to Superdrug for a new highlighter, make-up fans touch up their face with baking powder – which apparently works for highlighting nose and the under eye area.

Verdict

IT’S not for getting a glow but is good for coverage and minimising dark circles. Be prepared to get it over your outfit and potentially in your eyes, though.

Tin-foil curls

ACHIEVING bouncy ringlets with straighteners is no easy feat, but throw tin-foil into the mix and you’ll be giving yourself an affordable lasting perm.

Begin wrapping strands of your hair round two fingers, starting at the roots. Slide your fingers out to create a loop of hair. Fold foil tightly around this loop to hold in place[/caption]

Verdict

THE process of rolling my hair into foil was time-consuming and tricky when trying to do the back. But it is definitely worth it to achieve tight corkscrew curls which won’t drop out.

Sunglasses contour

KNOWING where to contour can be a minefield. But when it comes to your nose, TikTokkers have suggested using sunglasses as a guide to creating perfectly placed lines to blend.

Verdict

I CAN see why this became a TikTok tip because it is entertaining, but I don’t think it’s one that will save you time in the morning. Using the sunglasses just adds another step of faffing – it would be easier to apply directly to your nose with a brush.

Wing it with floss harps

MASTERING liner flicks that rival Adele’s is nigh on impossible, and if you don’t have a steady hand using a stencil can help. While some say use tape, floss harps are a simpler alternative that avoid sticking anything to your skin.

IT’S hard work holding a liner in one hand and harp in the other, but it does allow you to draw a neat line. That said, it’s not recommended for doing on the go.
