Major tournament postponement allows Spurs to hold onto first-team player
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations has officially been postponed due to the uncertainty which the COVID-19 pandemic has placed on football (Goal).
Tuesday’s Confederation of African Football meeting confirmed that the competition which will be held in Cameroon will be postponed until January 2022 instead of kicking off on January 9th of next year.
The announcement has handed Premier League clubs a huge boost as they will no longer lose their African players to the competition during the Premier League campaign.
For Spurs, this means they will no longer be without the services of Serge Aurier
The Ivory Coast international lifted the trophy in 2015 when his side beat Ghana in the final on penalties (BBC).
Aurier was one of the nine penalty scorers on the night as his side won 9-8 in the shootout.
Originally arranged for June and July 2021, the CAF was forced to change the dates of the tournament to the early months of the year due to the hot climate of the summer months in Cameroon.

There are certainly teams (Liverpool) who will benefit from this a lot more than Spurs will, however, we are struggling in the right-back department so any help we can get at the minute we should take – even if Aurier does divide fan opinions like no other.
