‘Its like life, it’s got a life, and we’re putting out that life cos that’s a bad life we’re talking about.’
Trump touted Thursday’s announcement as a press conference, but left after making his announcement without taking any questions from journalists. His once-daily coronavirus briefings ended in April after the president was condemned for suggesting an injection of disinfectant as a possible coronavirus treatment.

Thursday’s announcement saw Trump claim the virus was under control despite the United States experiencing its worst single day of coronavirus diagnoses on Wednesday, with more than 50,000 new infections confirmed.
That is an 87% surge on the same day last week. Daily deaths across the country yesterday stood at 642 – down 28% from one week prior. But many of those diagnosed in recent days have also been hospitalized, sparking fears the fatality rate could also rocket in the coming weeks as as coronavirus kills those patients.
Texas, Florida, Arizona and California have all been badly-hit, with those states pausing or reversing reopening measures, and telling people to wear masks in a bid to stop the spread of Covid-19.
Thursday’s press conference was held for the president to tout new job figures, which showed the US added five million jobs in June, on top of almost three million added in May. Trump said the US unemployment rate fell 2% to just over 11%, far below the 30% level economists fears would be caused by coronavirus.
