Google Express workers may unionize, conditions ‘bleak’
More than 140 Google Express workers are seeking union representation from the Teamsters, a move that could call into question the wages and benefits of contract employees at other large technology companies.
The Palo Alto warehouse and shipping workers are employed by Adecco, which helps operate Google’s same-day and overnight shopping delivery service. Google Express works with retail partners like Costco and PetSmart to ship out everything from sodas to dog food. Teamsters Local Union 853 has raised concerns about poor working conditions, including damaged equipment, carts that roll across cracked floors, and “failing electrical systems that have resulted in fires.
