Queen spotted for first time since heading to Balmoral as she takes dogs for a walk

The Queen has emerged from Balmoral for the first time since she arrived there for her summer break.

The monarch, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, arrived at the Scottish castle on Tuesday – the day before Aberdeen city centre went into lockdown.

The Queen – who had been isolating at Windsor since the start of the pandemic – was spotted enjoying Saturday’s brilliant weather on the grounds of the sprawling 50,000-acre estate with her beloved dorgis (a corgi and dachshund cross-breed).

She was sporting a red top and a gilet tartan skirt as she soaked up the summer sunshine.

Her Majesty was joined by Sophie Wessex, Prince Edward, and their children, Lady Windsor, 16, and James, Viscount Severn, 12.

After a conversation with an aide, the Queen was pictured with a hiking stick as she took the dogs for a walk.

The Queen has visited Balmoral every summer of her 68-year reign, typically spending three months there.

This summer, however, will feel a little different given coronavirus restrictions.

The Sunday Times reported staff levels at Balmoral have been slimmed down to protect her.

Family members are reportedly not allowed to stay in the main house, while local staff had to isolate for two weeks to ensure they do not spread the virus.

Boris Johnson, who is planning a visit to Scotland next weekend with wife Carrie Symonds and son Wilfred, will not be visiting.

Balmoral has been the Scottish home of the royal family since 1852.

The Queen and Prince Philip have taken a close personal interest in running the Highlands estate since she assumed the throne.

It is understood they will remain at Balmoral until October.
