Utah Jazz collapse in the fourth quarter, plus two other takeaways from Utah’s 122-114 loss to the Dallas Mavericks
SALT LAKE CITY — No starter played more than 16 minutes for the Utah Jazz as they fell 122-114 to the Dallas Mavericks in Orlando. Here are three keys from the game:
- The Jazz were on fire from deep in the first half, shooting 13 for 24 (54%) from behind the 3-point arc, setting a Jazz franchise record for 3-pointers in a half. Jordan Clarkson led the charge, making five 3-pointers.
- Up just three with 3:30 left in the first half, the Jazz went on a 17-4 run to close out the half and separate themselves from the Mavericks. The run was capped off by a Clarkson four-point play to end the half with a 70-54 lead.
- With the bench unit playing all of the second half, the Jazz collapsed in the fourth quarter. Dallas, which was resting stars Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, outscored Utah 34-14 in the fourth quarter behind 10 points from Tim Hardaway Jr. Meanwhile, Utah’s shooting, which was scorching in the first half, regressed in the final quarter — the Jazz shot just 18.8% from the field in the fourth quarter and 10% from 3-point range.
With the loss, the Jazz remain in sixth place in the standings with one more game to go, against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday.
